That gives it a big learning curve for new players, but it means you'll be able to handle any other TW easily enough once you get it down. Total War: Shogun is the game that started it all, but it does not make the list of best Total War games. It is worth playing if you’re a die-hard fan, but the barebones nature of Shogun compared to later games in the series is very apparent. It is easy to forget the very first Total War Game with the release of much fancier titles that add more drama and better graphics, but the original Shogun is worth a spot in the best total war games. This is where it all started – the epic battles, the strategies developed in the throne’s room, the swelling music. Judging the best Total War games is tricky.
