Which teams have the most batting average leaders; a breakdown

Which teams have the most batting average leaders; a breakdown
The lack of baseball has caused me to look back through a lot of past stats recently. One thing I noticed was just how often Rockies players showed up near the top of the batting average leader board. It also often seemed to be fairly random players doing it in outlier years like michael cuddyer and justin morneau. I wanted to try and quantify how often teams had players high up on the batting average leader board so I created a simple little system. I went through the BA leader boards for each year and awarded teams points based on the top 10 players each year. 1st place would earn a team 10 points, 2nd would earn 9, etc. all the way down to 1 point for 10th place. I entered all the numbers in a spreadsheet going back to 1993 when the Rockies first showed up. The results are kind of hilariously absurd. The Rockies lead the next closest team by more than double, over 100 ahead. The results from the rest of the graph are still pretty interesting. some teams have a good spread of players gaining points while others are carried by one specific person. The tigers, for example, are dragged into second place almost solely on the shoulders of Miguel Cabrera and his batting title 3-peat.

In an effort to handicap the Rockies juggernaut I decided to make a second version of the graph starting in 2002 when the humidor was put into place in Coors.

This version is less comical but the rockies still hold a healthy lead. Prime Miggy is the only thing bringing any team close. Most of the other top teams on the graph have had significant stretches of greatness in the time period but the rockies still lead all while being fairly mediocre. Coors seems to be an impenetrable fortress of hitting. There are a lot of fun things to notice about these graphs so if people like them maybe I'll do another version with another stat.

AL Batting Average Leader - Ben Gamel*

Congrats? to Ben Gamel leading the AL in batting average as of today. The asterisk indicates that he technically doesn't qualify for consideration as the league leader because he needs to have 3.1 plate appearances per team game and he falls just short at 2.93. However, the ranking system will add in hitless at bats to get to the number needed for him to qualify mathematically and when that happens he still ranks. Regardless of the technical aspects, he's been crushing it as our 1/2 and at this pace he's looking to have a great year.

Can someone explain to me how a player would qualify for batting average leaders.

I really want my boy CDick to win the title, but he isn't qualified. I also noticed SharkNado isn't qualified either and he would be in 2nd place. I know it has something to do with at bats, but how come Seth Smith (who is qualified) has 358 at bats and Nado has 360 yet Nado isn't.

Tim Anderson now leads the AL in batting average outright

Anderson conveniently passed DJ LeMahieu yesterday, the same day that he accrued enough PAs to meet the qualifying 3.1 PA/G number since he spent most of July on the DL.
With Anderson going 2-5 today to raise his average to .332, he officially passes LeMahieu for the outright lead. With the Yankees off today, Anderson will end Sept. 5 as the outright batting average leader in the AL.
After a slow June that was punctuated by a high ankle sprain that caused the aforementioned DL stint, Anderson has been on a .374 pace since the beginning of August.
