Sieg's Wall of Text 2.0

Right, as someone requested on the previous wall of text recently, and I'm kinda free from the grinding, here's wall of text 2.0. No TLDR yada yada, just discussing... stuff.
We are approaching the end of the year, and it’s been an amazing half a year for RSRS GL. Right now, is one of the best times to start RSRS, in the past month or so we’ve had banners that nearly covered the full spectrum of all the top tier styles available in the game so far.
Now, just in case a new player is actually reading this (wouldn’t advise it), I’ll cover what I feel are the most important banners to reroll/pull on right now.
Reroll Banners
  1. Liz / Barthelemy / Julian
All 3 are excellent, Barthelemy is the grand prize even if he comes into his own relatively late for newer players.
  1. Princess White Rose / Undine / Faerie
The target here is Princess White Rose. In RSRS JP, she was only ever reprinted once with the pity option available. There’s a bottomless gacha in JP right now where many JP players I know of are trying for Barthelemy and Princess White Rose. Your choice to grab her now or not -> I would.
  1. Asellus / Emelia / Professor
An overall weaker banner relative to the options available, but again, who knows if Asellus will be reprinted in the future. You might not “need” her, but cheap INT debuffs aren’t that readily available. I would skip if I had to, but Emelia is still one of the better burst attackers and people might regret not having the inheritance option available when the future Asellus comes to GL.
  1. Polka / Ellen / Sarah
Polka is a wildcard for GL, the buff on his s3 from 3 hits to 3 to 5 hits is pretty solid, heck it’s amazing. At 5 hits on a neutral target, he can be doing as much as some attackers with a weakness advantage. Based on what I did manage to research of JP though, one issue is that his usage potential isn’t as high as many of the other top units, but with this buff AND the recent upgrade of SS weapons in JP (5 hits at 44 SP???), pulling Polka might be a really good investment. Regardless, he’s definitely one of the top attackers in GL right now for damage potential.
  1. Fuse / Rei / Princess White Rose / Mesarthim
Despite me ranking this banner last, it’s not really “bad”, even relative to the other banners. There are just considerations that are beyond the upfront value of the banner itself. Fuse is an excellent AoE crowd control option for newer players, Rei has pretty good damage and excellent ST crowd control options.
I’m not a fan of CC on abilities, and while ST crowd control isn’t bad, AoE is obviously much more convenient. Thing is that the highest value activities in the game are grinding (for some events) and boss fights, and these styles have limited/niche use for those. These styles also have a much higher chance of reprints compared to the reprint banners which have more arguably “crucial” options (AoE agi debuff, (AoE) int debuff). Exact value of the banner aside, IF I were rerolling, I would prioritize on stuff that I have a higher chance of missing out on near permanently (who knows the future?) and thus these are listed as such. Of course, I have not covered all the styles on the banners, but that’s not because they aren’t good (many are pretty excellent for GL right now), but knowing the main targets is more important.
Now, before we move on to more fun stuff, let’s reiterate that players can do whatever they want with their accounts, this game isn’t that hard in general, I don’t care if your styles are “better” than mine or vice versa, it’s nice that this game provides a lot of choices to clear content, and I like it that way. As much as possible I will try to be subjective in evaluation, but if that offends some sensibilities then people might just want to quit reading instead of flying off into a rage.

Sieg’s Top 10 Most Impactful Styles of 2020
  1. [Don’t Tell My Brother] Monika
One of the two first ever limited styles, Monika was a large point of contention in the player base. The main argument against pulling her was that “this style isn’t a good long-term investment”. While it is true that content (Romancing Attacks) has been cleared (while they were relevant) without her and using Fake Robin instead, she did allow people to clear content easier and was the premier attacker option for a relatively “long” time in GL, up to around the release of [I’ll Never Forgive You!] Emelia, but then we received a new Divine Wall formation not long after to replace the old Hunter’s Gambit with an additional DEX slot, so she didn’t become totally irrelevant.
She might not have been needed, might not have been the best use of jewels, but… there was a real difference in ease of play for accounts with and without her. Selma, the side grade to this style, came right before Asellus and considering the never-ending tide of banners (with buffs) since then, I would say that Monika deserves a slot here.

  1. [Watch Over Me, Brother] Rocbouquet
Rocbouquet was another large point of contention. I included her impact here not so much for game play itself, but because of the polarizing opinions on Rocbouquet and how much she contributed to the “is Platinum worth pulling or not” debate that has followed. Is Rocbouquet overhyped? This is one of the popular opinions, and honestly it is not hard to understand why. Imo, she was a relative victim of the differing circumstances between GL and JP, the largest difference being that of Sophia being available early for us. Content also progressed in a way that made her feel relatively lacklustre to use for me, if my SS Rouge with Shadow Chains wasn’t paralyzing consistently in Zweig 8, I sure wouldn’t be betting on my Rocbouquet’s Lightning there. She is still undoubtedly an above average all-rounder, with heal, AoE, paralysis, passive chance to charm… but most people probably used her less than they thought they would.
That said, it took me till the Award tickets (nearly 4 months from her release banner) to obtain this style. If I want to use a platinum style, will I be taking my chances with the platinum tickets? Hell no…

  1. [Here, This Is for You] Princess White Rose
She was so hyped that people expected her to destroy the game. Didn’t happen of course. My favourite reaction to WR was… “That’s it?” Well, that’s pretty much it. She’s been a core part of my harder content fights ever since. I’m not sure how other players use her, but I’ve always focused on Chocolate Ball all the way. Her heal IS strong, but it also costs a lot of BP that I’m not always willing to trade for. Cleanse wise, Lute was a better option for me and there hasn’t been much need for it so far. She is particularly helpful with slow Petra Delta (or other AoE petrify in the future) units, as Petrify cannot be overwritten or reapplied during its duration. The AoE AGI debuff from Chocolate Ball can ensure that you possess the turn advantage to petrify again if it comes to that, I usually use Chocolate Ball on turns 4 and 5. An outstanding style that is still used in JP, and one that I will very likely be using for the foreseeable future.

  1. [The Joys of Teaching] Undine
This Undine style was the very first style that received a GL change (buff) which heralded whole new possibilities for GL. Before this, players were mostly discussing about potential global exclusives. In a sense, these styles with changes/buffs are global exclusives as well. This style was also very memorable for another reason, she was datamined to have Ice Javelins changed to a 4BP AoE Cold/Pierce WIL debuff, but in the end it was “only” a 4BP AoE Cold END debuff. I’m not sure how much of an impact the discussion ensuing from this datamine lead to, but it should be taken into consideration that from this point onwards, dataminers had FAR less to datamine with each data update. The style itself had people debating over whether the buff made her worth pulling… well, that’s the common state of things anyway.

  1. [Facing the Final Battle] Asellus
Ah, meta pick number two. Many players were assuredly not ready for her banner to drop when it did. While banners were reshuffled before this, very few people, if any, expected for this banner to have been brought so much in advance relative to JP. She was the first cheap INT debuff, and her slash damage WAS top (slightly higher than Gustave at equivalent stats) for some time. While many of us pulled her for the utility (and its inheritance potential), she was probably less impactful than she would have been in the original JP schedule as time wasn’t on her side. From this point onwards, all hell broke loose as RSRS GL accelerated the pace of the game with GL buffs, combined banners, and global exclusive units.

  1. [I’ll Never Forgive You!] Emelia
Coming hot on the heels of the Asellus banner, Emelia received buffs that made people question if she was at the power level of JP units that JP players were using then. (It wasn’t, or if we were to place it, would have been right at the tail end really). What this style indicated was that RSRS GL wasn’t afraid of taking a lower rated style in JP and transforming it into one that players would want to have. The changes didn’t actually affect the overall power level much for the Battle Island scenario that players were proposing, she had the exact same stats and damage increase from abilities, and with her AGI it would have been likely that she would not have been the first choice for a first turn ST nuke, making the change from Self Improvement to Power Charge II meaningless in that scenario. The only “buff” would be access to both Blunt and Pierce on Sweet Trap, IF the player needed it. A brilliant buff that made her much better compared to alternatives GL had, but also not making her so strong she would have been “extremely sought after” even a (JP) year later.

  1. [It’s An Escort Mission Uniform] Katarina
GL’s first GLEX (global exclusive, also possible to be “global original”) style. Also garnering a lot of debate over whether she was worth pulling, Katarina was the first debut of multi hit attacks AND a 40% chance to recover 1 BP upon attacking in GL. Without a doubt, Slash Command was overhyped. That said, access to 3 damage types is sweet and she still has some of the highest damage potential in GL right now. She disappointed many for not being “unique” and likely to become outdated but honestly, not every style is Princess White Rose. The biggest stigma against her currently is probably from the horde of fans who blame her for Buckethill Gustave being persistently absent even up till now. Her time in the limelight is being contested with the plethora of damage options we have now, as well as the impending Final Emperor with Plum Cut, but she would have more than served players well even as she gets relegated to… being still one of the top slash attackers in the box for a (short) while more.

  1. [A Blood Test!] Vampire Lady
The first style that was changed so much she became an entirely different beast vampire from her JP version. She received an ability that allowed her to act as a pseudo tank (extremely powerful in content like Zweig) and had her main focus changed to Charm. Honestly it was for the better, though I am not a fan of ability-based crowd control. In Charm’s case though, it probably was a better idea due to the lack of CHA based equipment and CHA spots in formations. Keep in mind there’s only a maximum of 25% chance of activation (true even in JP up till now for all ability-based cc). I’m not going to bother with arguments that it is “fun” to watch the AoE charm happen, it is undoubtedly powerful and of entertainment value to some players. The main thing is that if I have to reset for that result, there’s plenty of other options I could pursue that leads to the same end result of clearing a stage (more consistently). And of those options, I could probably have them contribute more than what this style of Vampire Lady does across more scenarios. But as always, play to have fun >.<

  1. [This Ends Here] Blue / [All For This Day] Rouge
They are together for non-spoiler reasons =) These 2 styles went from platinum in JP to limited in GL, and received buffs that more than justified that status. Dual damage type skills are particularly good, and that AGI buff (along with the damage buffs) should make them relevant for a pretty long time. Along with them being on the first step up banner (with free jewels!!) in GL, the arrival of these styles marked another large deviation from what people were expecting from the JP version of the game. This banner also opens up the old question of the missing Buckethill Gustave, will he receive the Battle of Fate treatment and become a buffed limited style? Will Myriam turn out that way, given how good she was in JP? Will this happen for platinum styles on UDX banners? These questions aside, I am quite curious on how long these styles will stay relevant at the top end of the game, given how (ridiculously) good they are.

  1. [A Twisted Heart, Yet…] Barthelemy
Meta pick number three. One of the most anticipated units that apparently “disappointed” some people in some channels initially. Receiving pretty much the “that’s it?” treatment that Princess White Rose did at first, players have begun to understand what Barthelemy offers that makes him one of the most coveted styles in the JP version of the game. He might not do 25k in 1 turn yet (that’s around what he does in JP around October) but players have begun to use him for just about anything where grinding is involved. The value of [fast] AoE is just in the consistency for planning speed runs and he’s been used just about everywhere for grinding since. Teams are built around Abaddon Hands… and while there will be better [fast] AoE, Barthelemy remains a consistent fixture for Battle Island in many JP players’ boxes.

Failed to make the list for now [Region Patrol’s Top Man] Fuse
Some might argue that he should have made the top 10. He certainly breaks new ground, being the first new character that had never existed in JP so far, as well as being the first style in GL to offer a “chase” ability where a skill is followed up by another. I debated on it myself but after going through all the styles on the list, on a relative scale, I felt that the talking point (wow, only character to appear first in GL so far… but so what?) and the kit (too similar overall to Vampire Lady) just didn’t warrant a spot in it. Opinions may differ of course…
There’s still more stuff I wish to discuss such as the top 10 styles in GL so far (100% controversial >.>) as well as an update for styles we should be looking out for (as per JP and not taking into account GL buffs and GLEX) but there’s insufficient time for now. I might expand the post later (some people will probably go hell no) or just make a Part 2.

Where do you guys find info on lineups for underage matches?

For those of you bet on fixtures in under-age leagues (U18/U23), where do you guys find lineups which inform your decisions? There's a wealth of information regarding the U18 and U23 premier but not so much for the equivalent age groups of the Professional Development League, is there anyone here aware of where I can get such information?

FPL & Well-Being: Follow-Up to the Survey

Hey everyone! So, if you remember, I posted a survey to judge the effects of FPL on our Well-Being for a Project in a Psychology Course a Week Ago. This is a follow-up post to that, as many had requested, mainly talking about the findings.
(You can find the previous post here: FPL & Well-Being Survey)

Before I begin, I would genuinely like to extend a note of gratitude to all of you; none of this would be possible without your support. Have to say this community is far and beyond everything else! Also, please bear with me, this might be a little long even though I’ve tried to summarize as much as possible. I shall try my best to make it worth your time! :’)

Next, this is another interesting perspective I was able to chalk up while doing this study. There are a lot of ways to summarize your season in FPL — OR, Green Arrows, Red Arrows, ML Ranks and much more. One way to look at it is this. Typically, your season is always a mixture of multiple red and green arrows, which together add up to 38 (one for every GW). Two people having similar ranks at the end of the season can have completely contrasting journeys, with their combination of red and green arrows vastly different. Similarly, whether or not you believe it, there is always “hope” for a green arrow. This is analogous to our lives — we all have different journeys, different destinations, different moments of triumph and disaster. And even if our destination is the same, our journey will always be different. All of us face hardships and go through tough times. Yet, it is hope that keeps us going. Hope that someday, things will be good. Hope that we will have a green arrow after numerous red arrows.
Better yet, there is an uncertainty that’s always involved, just like life; ‘as Mama always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” — Forrest Gump’. A season of FPL in its rawest form is a genuine manifestation of life, a roller-coaster ride. On the way, it teaches you an insane number of lessons, intertwined with a few moments of absolute bliss, to form a wholesome package of development.

Coming to the more obvious results from the survey, I have a few interesting conclusions to talk about.

The important observation here was the fact that this number dropped to a mere 12% (overall, in both cases) when asked about the hindrance bad results in FPL cause in real life, or affect growth negatively. This is really important. We all suffer from bad GWs. Have disappointments, heartbreaks, and failures. Make the wrong choices. But we come out of it. We always do. That is why we return to FPL every year with the same excitement as when we first started. Primarily, there are two reasons for this temporary feeling of disgust and jealousy. The human brain is hardwired to focus on negatives, and always thinks about “what could be”. Psychologists call it the negativity bias and the outcome bias respectively. You’re not alone in suffering from it, we all do. But the reason it is temporary is because our mind tricks us into it. We soon come out of it, and it plays no effect in our lives anymore. Those of you who feel it stays long-term, you may want to re-valuate your situation and choices. More often than not, we make the right choices, it’s just that luck wants to have it some other way. Believe it or not, luck is an integral part of FPL, and life, for that matter, and there’s no two ways about it. You cannot be too hard on yourself for something that wasn’t in your hands. This community is one of the best places to reach out to if you feel there’s too much, and the response here is almost always heart-warming. You won’t feel alone, we are all there for you.

From the discussion above, it is it is pretty clear FPL can have both positive and negative effects. However, the positives heavily outweigh the negatives, as stated before. This is mainly due to the fact that the positives have more of a long-lasting impact on your happiness, while the negatives are mainly temporary disappointments pioneered by human biases. Once you are considerate enough to understand the result, it should be smooth sailing.

So finally, we can conclusively say that FPL does play a role in our lives. It can be a weekend fixture, or an activity that leads to tremendous growth. On a very general note, chances are it affects you much more positively. You might want to think of it as a simulation of life — fuelled by ups and downs, moments of joy and laughter, heartbreak and disappointment; but most importantly, an entity that helps you grow as an individual, develop connections/relations, and teach you a thing or two about life. All that you need to do is play it the right way.
The sheer multitude of the impact FPL creates on one’s life can be surprising, but it’s very real. We build connections, gain positive energy, learn lessons about outcome bias, develop our thought process, boost our personality, and trigger the release of dopamine in the most delicate yet beautiful manner. A game that involves football analysis, logic, numerical skills, betting strategies, game theory, stock markets and behavioural psychology — it is truly one of a kind. While the 7.8 million player base is still galloping through, there is always a potential for newcomers. And we’ve seen that, the numbers keep rising exponentially every year. There is no secret to this, FPL is an experience no football fan would want to miss, and its simplicity is what makes it so mesmerizing. FPL has its own knack of throwing up things in an unprecedented manner; but chocolates, at the end of the day, are chocolates. You will learn from every single one of them and grow along the way. Keep your head high as Forrest, and you are sure to have a lot of fun in this exceptional journey!

P.S: If you are still with me, I’d genuinely like to thank you! I hope it was worth your time :’)

Leicester City vs Chelsea

The home side enjoys another excellent campaign, and they sit on the 2nd spot, being only two points behind Manchester United. The Foxes haven’t lost six times in a row in all competitions, although they had a pretty tough schedule. After securing a place in the next round of the FA Cup with a convincing 4:0 victory away to Stoke, Leicester City booked an important win against Southampton at King Power Stadium last weekend. Even though they haven’t been confident at the home ground this season, Brendan Rodgers’s side puts excellent performances on the road. Jamie Vardy keeps being very productive in front of the oppositions’ net as he scored 11 times in 17 appearances this season. Leicester might improve their defending overall, and they are on a good track as the hosts kept the clean sheet in their last two fixtures. If they manage to keep up the form, the home side could continue the title race.
On the other hand, Chelsea booked only two wins in the last five rounds, and the away side slipped to 7th place. The Blues looked like title contenders at the start of the campaign, but they simply haven’t shown enough against the league’s top sides. Frank Lampard didn’t want to gable against minnows Morecambe in the FA Cup, and they secured a 4:0 victory, but they struggled against ten-men Fulham on Saturday. The visitors need to improve their defense as they spilled too many points, both at home and on the road. Tammy Abraham and the lads are doing well in the final third, but Chelsea needs to be more creative in the middle of the park. After three straight defeats away from home, the visitors picked up all three points, but another tough challenge expects them on the road. If they get back home with all three points from this one, Chelsea could get closer to the Champions League spots.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Head-to-head clashes between these two teams have been very tight lately. This one shouldn’t be much different, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends in a draw.

Goals Market Prediction

Both teams are doing well in the front and possess great attacking potential. We believe nets won’t remain still in this game, and we should see both sides scoring at least once.
