I started the trading game almost a month ago (2015/10/17) and I wanted to share my story with you about how I managed to get twice as much as what I began with.
You can see that as a guide, statistic post, or just enjoy the reading !
How I entered the trade game
Well, a month ago or so, Vulcun started to put CS:GO skins as a reward of some of their fantasy bets. The first fantasy bet with a skin as winning was 1$ entry, 300 participants, and a Butternilla as a reward. You have to know that on Vulcun, you can fantasy bet on several FREE contest per day and win 0.03$ per bet. So, basically, I didn't spend anything to enter this contest.
I was talking with my teammates about Key Trading for a while, and I decided to give it a go.
Getting prepared
First of all, I searched for a [Q] thread here asking for help for beginners, saw a post, and saw some guy answering very nicely, so I decided to send him a PM. This was probably my best idea. Snake57 was really helpful for helping me get into the Trade Game : Nice, patient, giving a lot of infos, he helped me so much, with a lot of humility. For example, this is A GLIMPSE of his first answer, and he was sorry about bad formatting and so few details. He helped me a lot about what to avoid, basic scams, Add-ons to install, etc.
I spent a few days watching Lounge and Reddit to get used to the trade game. Trying to find good items, bad items, items to avoid and items to get. I started what would be the heart of my journey : a spreadsheet, where I would put prices of item to get, evolution of items, etc. Don't mind the prices they are not all up to date.
Going in !
So I had a basic way of thinking at first : Buy on reddit, sell on Lounge, be patient, but don't let items rot in your inventory. As I saw the scene in the beginning, it was : "Lounge is a place full of highballers, and reddit is the stable place. Focus on getting good prices on Reddit and profit on Lounge".
I started my trades spreadsheet to keep a trace of what I got and what I bought. So, let's go with the stats now !
Statistics
I wont go through everytrade, but let's show the evolution of my keys ! I kept trace of everytime I got only pure keys, just to plot the result. Here it is As you can see, the plot is going slightly higher in curve, meaning that if I keep going at this pace, I might get higher profits as time go by. An other plot : Key profit amount per trade. This is the difference between how much I earned and how much I spent for every Item I bought with keys and sold with keys (in one step or two - aka downgrading). Here it is I excluded the first trade as such a huge profit was messing with the scale and quite unconventionnal. As you can see, most of the trades where 1K profit. I think this could go higher as my keypool goes higher.
I spend around 2 hours every day on reddit and lounge, split in 10 minutes sessions.
I started with one butternilla. 25 days after, I have :
2 butternillas (bought just for the symbol)
4 keys
an AK Redline I kept for my playskin (guilty pleasure)

I found out that there are a lot of very good offers on Lounge, but you have to find them. I focused, at the middle of my journey, mostly on maxbets. So, I made custom searches, on several favorite tabs, and every once in a while, I launch them all, and try to find quicksells. Then I sell them on Lounge AND Reddit. If I don't find any buyer, before lowering my price, I spend some time on Lounge trying to find buyers from my item (even if 99% are quickbuyers lowballing way too much - Ooooh, Lounge.)

This is kind of a drug. I felt like I spent maybe too much time lurking on reddit and Lounge, and less time worling on my game (learning new strats, nads, etc). And working on the game missed me. I will probably lower the pace, spending less time on trading for the next month.
What I would like to do is continue at this pace with lowering my time spent here. This means that the profit curve might slightly drop down, but I would still continue to profit. I don't belive in 1 month = 2 knives, so 2 months = 4 knives. As I focus on special items, my goal for now is 1 month = 2 knives, 2 months = 3 knives, etc.
I see more a linear profit curve, so I will continue to profit while lowering my time investment.
Trading is really interesting, really frustrating, and joyful at the same time. Kind of like betting, but without loosing anything. If this thread get some good feedbacks, I might do one every month ! :)
Aye guys, first things first. If nothing changes, the Asii FT won't be maxbet much longer. My opinion, I know but let's face it. It's been sub 60 for over half a week now. And there's been other skins that fell out way sooner. Cyrex fn and a couple of others are out and if the FT looses its status, the only more accessible option I see is the Vulcan FN, which still wasn't bettable when I checked two days ago. That's just my half-educated guess which we really shouldn't be worrying to much about. We are traders so either we get all panicky and everything's going down, or we plan ahead and ask ourself: What is the possible preferred Maxbet of tomorrow. (Like, dramatical "tomorrow", ya'know?) As said before, one option could be the Vulcan FN which I think will be bettable if the asii ft looses its status. ATM it's at the same price as the ft was before the drop happened and there's kind of the same supply out there. Another option could be the new Chroma 2 M4 thingy (Hyperbeast?), if enough people have the pleasure to get that out of the case. Since I don't want to go on rambling and rambling, I'd really like to hear some of your thoughts. Which horse are you putting your money on? Or do you still #believe that everything will go back to normal? Because I want to believe aswell, but preparation is everything comrades! Thanks for any input! Where was I after 1 month ?
On the 12th of November, a bit less than one month after I started trading, I had 102 pure keys. Basically, I went from 1 BFK vanilla to 2 BFK vanilla.
As I had more pure keys, but I wanted to lower my trading implication to focus more on gaming, I kind of planned to get 150 keys after 2 months.
I'm not gonna let you hang : I'm currently at 140k. And not in a month, as I made my first sum up less than a month after trading. So I made 55k in 25 days, and 45k in 35 days after that. Yeah, the pace dropped drastically.
Of course, this can be explained very easily :
I spent less time trading and more time playing.
Fallout 4
Trade hold
Fallout 4 and Trade Hold made the trading game waaay more boring than before. The price dropped, everybody was confused, and trades were going really slowly. This just increased my need to trade less and play more, and it explains why I made less profit than expected.

(Gosh this is depressing :D) You can pretty much clearly see on this simple graph what went through my mind : After Fallout 4 (10th of November), market went a bit crazy, so I traded less, but kept the same pace as before. But when Trade Hold was announced (26th of November), everything went so slow. Both because of the state of the market, AND because I was bored after Fallout 4 went out.
Let's try to see it on another graph : How much trades did I made per day since the beginning ? Here is the answer Pretty clear, uh ?
Another graph : The profit in pure keys per trade What can we learn from this one ? That the most keys you have, the more you are quite sure to make profit with a trade. I have way less zero profit trades than before.
Some of you asked me to put WHERE I got my items from. So this is the list of past month trades, with where I got them, how much I bought them and how much I sold them. Here is the list And for the source of items :

As you can see, still a lot of maxbets ! I kind of thought, after my conclusion of last month, that the Lounge / Reddit ratio would be more in favor of Lounge than this score
Interesting thing : I buy mostly maxbets on Lounge, and CHEAP or EXPENSIVE items on Reddit (Redlines or mid-tier knives)
Conclusion, and what's next ?
Gosh, this was a hard month for trading. I think anyone is with me on this one.
Prices dropped a lot. 2 months ago, maxbets sold at 32 and bought at 30/31. Now they hardly sell at 28. I have to say this is the most surprising thing for me : Gosh, they are MAXBETS, their prices should NOT change ! Redlines have trouble selling at 2K, even mroe at 2.1k. EVEN AWP ASII FT DROPPED !! This was like the most fix price I ever saw since I started trading, and now nobody buy at 15k anymore.
Let's face it : this month did not help me to enjoy trading more than what I expected.
I don't think I ever told you what is my goal in all this : I'm a father, worker, and don't have a lot of spare money all at the end of the month. My computer is getting old (6 years), and I was kind of hoping that I could by myself a new motherboard / processor / memory combo.
From what I calculated, by selling my keys at 1.8€, it would cost me around 180 keys to get what I want. The thing is :
Will I ever have the patience and willpower to go to 180 keys ?
If I do, will I sell immediatly, or will I try to get some more keys to continue trading afterwards ?
What I would really like to do, is get enough keys to buy this combo, and have spare keys to buy a cool Doppler P2 and what I want since the beginning : a ST AWP Redline MW
But right now, my mood is more "Sell when you can and forget the skins."
I hope this will get better soon and I'll find faith in trading again anytime soon !

Liquid tends to be quite inconsitent, but now that they have added Hiko it's interesting to see how they will settle in. They might test new things, the team might not be gelling together, we never know. Meanwhile, Nihilum just got picked up by Complexity, a very legendary organisation to the CSGO scene and I'm confident they will want to impress. They have some really strong fraggers who when go off, can definitely cause a ruckus for Liquid. Obviously Liquid not getting at least 1 map is unlikely, but the risk > reward is just simply not there, it's not a risk I would like to take. Rather ICB Complexity, and get the same return as if I was to bet 100 dollars on Liquid. How I failed at keeping the same pace

This post is the continuation of a thread I opened a month ago for which I got a lot of good feedbacks and cheerings, so I decided to keep it alive !
As I said at the end of the first month :
This is kind of a drug. I felt like I spent maybe too much time lurking on reddit and Lounge, and less time worling on my game (learning new strats, nads, etc). And working on the game missed me. I will probably lower the pace, spending less time on trading for the next month. What I would like to do is continue at this pace with lowering my time spent here. This means that the profit curve might slightly drop down, but I would still continue to profit. I don't belive in 1 month = 2 knives, so 2 months = 4 knives. As I focus on special items, my goal for now is 1 month = 2 knives, 2 months = 3 knives, etc.
So, let's see how it went ! spoiler It did not went well :D
Where was I after 1 month ?
On the 12th of November, a bit less than one month after I started trading, I had 102 pure keys. Basically, I went from 1 BFK vanilla to 2 BFK vanilla.
As I had more pure keys, but I wanted to lower my trading implication to focus more on gaming, I kind of planned to get 150 keys after 2 months.
I'm not gonna let you hang : I'm currently at 140k. And not in a month, as I made my first sum up less than a month after trading. So I made 55k in 25 days, and 45k in 35 days after that. Yeah, the pace dropped drastically.
Of course, this can be explained very easily :
I spent less time trading and more time playing.

Fallout 4 and Trade Hold made the trading game waaay more boring than before. The price dropped, everybody was confused, and trades were going really slowly. This just increased my need to trade less and play more, and it explains why I made less profit than expected.

(Gosh this is depressing :D) You can pretty much clearly see on this simple graph what went through my mind : After Fallout 4 (10th of November), market went a bit crazy, so I traded less, but kept the same pace as before. But when Trade Hold was announced (26th of November), everything went so slow. Both because of the state of the market, AND because I was bored after Fallout 4 went out.
Let's try to see it on another graph : How much trades did I made per day since the beginning ? Here is the answer Pretty clear, uh ?
Another graph : The profit in pure keys per trade What can we learn from this one ? That the most keys you have, the more you are quite sure to make profit with a trade. I have way less zero profit trades than before.
Some of you asked me to put WHERE I got my items from. So this is the list of past month trades, with where I got them, how much I bought them and how much I sold them. Here is the list And for the source of items :

As you can see, still a lot of maxbets ! I kind of thought, after my conclusion of last month, that the Lounge / Reddit ratio would be more in favor of Lounge than this score
Interesting thing : I buy mostly maxbets on Lounge, and CHEAP or EXPENSIVE items on Reddit (Redlines or mid-tier knives)
Conclusion, and what's next ?
Gosh, this was a hard month for trading. I think anyone is with me on this one.
Prices dropped a lot. 2 months ago, maxbets sold at 32 and bought at 30/31. Now they hardly sell at 28. I have to say this is the most surprising thing for me : Gosh, they are MAXBETS, their prices should NOT change ! Redlines have trouble selling at 2K, even more at 2.1k. EVEN AWP ASII FT DROPPED !! This was like the most fix price I ever saw since I started trading, and now nobody buy at 15k anymore.
Let's face it : this month did not help me to enjoy trading more than what I expected.
I don't think I ever told you what is my goal in all this : I'm a father, worker, and don't have a lot of spare money all at the end of the month. My computer is getting old (6 years), and I was kind of hoping that I could buy myself a new motherboard / processor / memory combo.
From what I calculated, by selling my keys at 1.8€, it would cost me around 180 keys to get what I want. The thing is :
Will I ever have the patience and willpower to go to 180 keys ?
If I do, will I sell immediatly, or will I try to get some more keys to continue trading afterwards ?
What I would really like to do, is get enough keys to buy this combo, and have spare keys to buy a cool Doppler P2 and what I want since the beginning : a ST AWP Redline MW
But right now, my mood is more "Sell when you can and forget the skins."
I hope this will get better soon and I'll find faith in trading again anytime soon !
